Twenty years ago, the founders of HER Fund embraced their ideals and invited different stakeholders, including individuals, corporates, and private foundations, to pool resources and move forward one step at a time.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of HER Fund. We remain the only community women’s fund in Hong Kong, promoting the rights of women and transgender people through grantmaking and capacity building training. Over the years, we are delighted to see the emergence of more female leaders at the corporate level, as well as more discussions on issues encountered by different sexual orientations and transgender people. However, women and transgender people at the grassroots level or with multiple marginalised identities still face discrimination and varying degrees of violence. Women poverty remains severe. We understand that social change does not happen overnight, so continuous and flexible funding is very important for the work of different groups.
In terms of our efforts to cultivate a better philanthropic environment, we have achieved yet another record results in corporate and local private foundations fundraising. This shows us that more stakeholders in society understand the importance of women’s funds, which gives us confidence to create a platform for grassroots communities to tell their own stories and work together to raise more flexible resources for empowerment work.
Thank you again for your support over the past year, and I hope you and more of you can work together to create a more prosperous and fruitful 21st year.
