| Outline | This project tackles educational barriers and language discrimination encountered by ethnic minority women in Hong Kong (including Pakistani, Nepali, Indian and other backgrounds). They face difficulties supporting their children’s education due to challenges with Cantonese, cultural bias, and the lack of school guidelines for communicating with ethnic minority parents, which leaves them feeling powerless. The United Muslim Association of Hong Kong aims to help these women learn practical Cantonese vocabulary for school communication through dedicated Cantonese workshops. In addition, a WhatsApp support hotline will be set up to provide real-time translation of school documents, thereby enhancing women’s ability to participate in their children’s education. The project will also produce short online videos to dismantle cultural misunderstandings and organize a human library event, where ethnic minority women who are willing to share will tell their personal stories of discrimination, forced marriage, and gender inequality, encouraging greater dialogue between the community and the public. |
