Last month, we hosted our “Transforming Values into Action: Impact Ecosystem Mixer”, gathering 20 philanthropic practitioners to envision and realise a better funding ecosystem.
What we did:
✴️Identifying Challenges and Gathering Collective Solutions
Putting trust-based approaches into action can be demanding and tough. In our last convening, we identified 3 key challenges ranging from measuring and narrating the impact of TBP to aligning organisational mindsets and culture, as well as managing board and trustees' expectations.
As we move forward, we discussed solutions to overcome these challenges, such as building more evidence as a collective and capturing small wins, leveraging the role of intermediaries and ecosystem builders, creating knowledge data banks and more.
✴️Fostering Mutual Understanding and Trust
Building trust is crucial to take the ecosystem further and we intentionally created a space to learn more about the personal values of fellow participants in the room. Although we were joined by practitioners from family offices, corporate foundations, impact investors and intermediaries, most participants had actually come from small to medium sized NGOs before working as a grant-maker. Most of them expressed they empathised with the challenges the non-profit sector is currently going through.
✴️Transforming Values into Action Series Soft Launch
As we take our “Transforming Values into Action” Series forward, we know that ecosystem change can only happen through collaboration and partnership with different stakeholders. We have recruited advisory group members to co-create future initiatives, provide feedback, and expand the impact of this work. We will also be hosting focus group discussions to collect impact stories of TBP in Hong Kong. In September, we will host another ️”Transforming Values into Action” event. Stay tuned if you are interested!
This event would not have been possible without the help from our supporters. Shout out to Johnson Stokes & Master for the amazing venue support, and thank you to Charlie for being our photographer for the day (also a member of our grantee partner organisation, The Association for the Advancement of Feminism!)
