Outline | This project collects oral histories from women who were involved in the garment industry in the Sham Shui Po district during the 1960s to 1980s. It aims to present the role and contributions of women during Hong Kong's economic take-off, as well as their pursuit and efforts in their own lives, the challenges they faced, and how they overcame them. There were many family-run garment factories Sham Shui Po where women worked in various roles while also balancing their responsibilities as caregivers in their families. Despite facing societal limitations, they made extra efforts to break free from the constraints imposed on women. The results will be showcased through public exhibitions, using text and audio accompanied by pictures or items, to present the stories of women in Sham Shui Po. These stories, pictures, or items will also be uploaded to an online platform to be shared with a wider audience. |
