3-Year Capacity Building on Organizational Development for Grantee Partners

In order to enhance our grantees’ work to be more sustainable, a 3-year tailor-made organizational capacity building program for our grantee partners were launched in October. The program aims to strengthen their knowledge and skills on 3 areas, 1) organizational management, 2) administrative and finance management, and 3) fundraising. Over 20 active members and executive committee members from JJJ Association, Women Poverty Concern Group and New Women Arrivals League are enthusiastically participating in this initiative. Core training will be conducted in the first year and an in-house trainer will be attached to each organization, supporting them to further integrate what they have learnt into their actual work in the organization in the coming 3 years.

Community of Practice Meeting: Voice Out, Young Women!

Judy, Programme Officer of HER Fund, and Irene Lam, young Executive Committee member of Teen’s Key, participated the Community of Practice Meeting held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands this September. Both of them exchanged ideas and knowledge with other young women from all over the world. In the past few years, HER Fund witnessed the growth of Teen’s Key, and its direction to become a young women-led organization. Hopefully this opportunity could further enhance its development.

Other than consolidating with young women from different places, Irene reflected her identity as a young feminist and her role as an organizer, and here is a reflective journal written by her:

CoP Meeting @ Amsterdam: reflection, inspiration and encouragement

In late September, Mama Cash and Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM) organized the 3rd third Community of Practice Meeting, supporting girls and young women. During the meeting, young feminists from different countries shared their situation and their work in their organization, and we also discussed about the development of girl-led group and funding strategies with women’s funds. As a young executive committee member of Teen’s Key, I am glad to join this meeting with Judy (Programme Officer of HER Fund).

I've been an exchange student and a traveler to explore foreign countries. Yet, this is the first time for me to exchange as a young feminist. It is a rare platform for people from all over the world to share their knowledge and experience. While I don't understand the serious condition of patriarchal nature in Kenyan and Algeria societies, they are confused about why women's status and human right are still a trouble for me in Hong Kong. It's true that comparing with the countries that still fighting for women's education and facing violence against women, Hong Kong is indeed a relatively open and rich society. But do we satisfy with the taboo of discussing sex in our society and education system?

While I was explaining to the girls about the situation in Hong Kong and briefly introduce about our "gender awareness workshops", they affirmed me of the intrinsic meaning and value of our work. I also gained a lot of reflection, inspiration and encouragement. In addition, the conference focused on the strategies of the funding raising and the use of resources, and there are successful organizations sharing their experience. Those inspired me to rethink about how to mobilize resource under the condition of lack of funding. For example, I came up with the idea of "donate experience" campaign, to encourage people to contribute in different way as well as to build our capacity for the organization to grow.

Special thanks to the organizers and co-units, it was a great opportunity for me to meet those girls and organizations that having the common vision. Although we have to say goodbye after the meeting, we are walking together in the same direction, fighting in women’s human right advocacy. I bring back the positive energy and new ideas, motivating myself on keep exploring self-identity as a young woman and to enhance gender awareness and strengthen the young women development network with Teen's Key.
